Welcome from the IALP President

February 2, 2020/in Home Page /by keynotepco

At each IALP Congress that I have attended I have been overwhelmed by the opportunities to learn from colleagues working in similar areas but in different systems. I come away refreshed and invigorated and feel that attendance has improved my clinical and research practice. They are sociable and welcoming events where I have met individuals who have become lifelong colleagues and friends.

2022 sounds as if it’s a long way off! But it will come quickly!

With the overall theme of Looking Forward you will not be surprised to see that the following 3 themes will permeate the programme:

  • Intervention with Multilingual Children – Evidence Based Practice
  • Technological Developments to Enhance Assessment and Treatment
  • Improving Quality of Service Provision

I suggest that you put this in your forward diary- think about whether you are going to submit an abstract and consider how you can get financial support to attend.
Why not think of adding on a week or 2 so that you can have a holiday while you are in New Zealand!

I look forward to seeing you there!

Pam Enderby OBE, PhD, DSc, MSc, FRCSLT President IALP

Welcome from the IALP 2022 Chairs

Aotearoa, the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association, together with the New Zealand Audiological Society, wish to entice you all to the ‘Land of the Long White Cloud’ for the 2022 International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics Congress. Being the ‘Land of First Light’, we promise a unique experience. We promise an experience that will connect, inspire and exhilarate.

Haere, haere, haere (welcome, welcome, welcome) to our home. Being a compact country in which one could run, kayak and bike from one side to the other in one day, and one which hosts a population of 5 million people from more than 200 different ethnic groups, we pride ourselves on our ability to collaborate and innovate. This congress would be true celebration of this.

This starts with the leadership group – a collaboration between two well  established associations, the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association and the New Zealand Audiological Society. This partnership brings together the talent and experience of each group. In addition to this collaboration, New Zealand hosts three speech-language therapy programmes: the University of Auckland, Massey University and the University of Canterbury. Those involved in organising this Congress will include representation from these three universities together with speech-language therapists and audiologists from the field.

Being the first country to grant women the vote in 1893, a country which has a living treaty signed between the Māori tribes of New Zealand and the Sovereign (te tiriti o Waitangi, 1840), and a country which claims Ernest Rutherford, Jean Batten and Sir Edmund Hilary as its children – New Zealanders have innovation and inspiration running through their blood.

Hosting the IALP Congress in Auckland, New Zealand would enable us to: share our educational and clinical innovations, inspire others through sharing our cultural journey and celebrate the fabulous work that speech-language therapists and audiologists over the world are doing every day.

Come and join us in Auckland, New Zealand for the 32nd IALP Congress in 2022, and we promise an unforgettable experience.

An experience that will connect, inspire and exhilarate all who join us.

Na to rourou, na taku rourou, ka ora ai te manuhiri.
With your basket of knowledge and with my basket of knowledge, the people will prosper

No reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.

Philippa Friary and Karen Pullar
Co-chairs, IALP 32nd Congress
